I too was at Sheerness Tech, I used to be your friend, I had forgotten lots of things in this article. You forgot the mysterious building, looking down from our maths room, where it was rumored unsavory things went on. I remember the cross country by the side of the covered way, where Mr Spice made us run through the puddles, I sometimes wonder if any of this would happen today in today’s heath and safety culture. I must admit though, it did give me a good education, although I am sure I learn through fear. I remember one Christmas, when I was in the school choir, Bill Barnet hitting me over the head with a thick music book just because I wasn’t singing ( he had told me indirectly not to sing ), I am sure he was one of those people we hear about now, that lives on physical abuse.
Engineering not so bad, I have just retired after doing 40 years of Electronics and Software Design, and I must admit I really enjoyed it.
Hi Colin,
Great to hear from you. I tried to trace you a few years back for old times’ sake but the trail ran cold. Someone said you’d moved to Essex.
I remember the Tech days with fondness, well, some of them. I enjoyed my jaunts going over to Sittingbourne to visit you although I’m pretty sure I got beaten up by skinheads one night. And I also bought my first scooter – a Dayton Albatross – from Sittingbourne for 10 shillings (50p)!
Have tried to retire a couple of times but I’m back working on, strangely, the Sheerness Times Guardian which is the paper I did my training on after I quit Shell Tankers.
